The Basics of Bible Journaling

Today I want to share some very basics in getting started in Bible Journaling.  If you are inspired by this new way of expressing God's word through art, let me just start off by saying you don't have to be an artist to do it!  Anyone can do it and there are lots of different ways.  I am going to start off with just the basics. You don't have to go out an buy a lot of supplies....you probably already have some at home to start with.

Bible:
First off you need a Bible:)  I have purchased a seperate Journaling Bible (listed below) that I have dedicated to Bible to my art journaling.  So I am not overly worried if I cannot read some of the scripture when I am done with a page.  I have another Bible I study from.  If you have an extra Bible laying around that you do not use you can start in that, or you can find cheap ones at Goodwill.

Pens:
I use Micron Pens and Faber Castell Pitt Pens.  Micron Pens are a pigment archival ink that will not bleed through the pages, fade over time or smear.  The Pitt pens are an India ink and are permanent, do not bleed, fade or smear.   These are good for lettering your scriptures and drawing your images.  Gel Pens are fun to play with also and add color to your page.

Colored Pencils:
Most of you probably already have a set of colored pencils at home, if you don't they are easy to find and use.  I choose Prismacolor because I like the smooth soft lead in the pencils.  It doesn't scratch the paper like some pencils.  You can highlight verses with the pencils, draw and color and illustration or lettering.  The "Come" page was done with the Pitt pen and then colored with Prismacolor Pencils.  I did use Gamsol to blend the color, but it is not necessary to start out with.

Washi Tape is an inexpensive, easy way to decorate a page.  It is a then decorative paper tape that can add color to your page.  The top stars on "Make Wise Choices" and the red stripes on the side of "Hello My Name is" are done with washi tape.  It can be found at most crafts stores, I like to look at Tuesday Morning for this.

If you are already a stamper or scrapbooker you probably have a lot of other supplies that can be used very easily in your Bibles.  I will go into more of that later.

Let me encourage you to not be afraid to start this wonderful journey!  Just dig into the word and let God speak to you and then bring it to life through art in your Bible.  A good place to start is with your favorite verse.  How does it speak to you?  How do you see it when you close your eyes and meditate on it?  What visions come to mind?  Now illustrate it in your Faith Art Journal.

Thanks for visiting.
Jill
