Faith Art Journaling class

We had such a fantastic time today at Trinity Baptist Church in Sun City Center today! They were all brave in trusting God to lead them in their art worship adventure.  

We plan on meeting again March 26th right before Easter and doing a page on the empty tomb.

Bold & Confident Faith

Hi Faithers!
This is a bold page and pray for bold & confident faith!  To go out into my world and share my story of Christ and what he has done for me!  The images are mostly stamps.  The letters bold & confident is a Hero Arts stamp set....the faith and love come from my Faith Art Stamps, lady and the heart flowers across the bottom are from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I drew the heart in the background.  For the background color I used acrylic paint and a makeup sponge and added black splatters.  A Signo White Gel Pen was used for shadowing and a blue gel pen for the lettering color.

I pray that we would all have the boldness to proclaim our faith in Jesus and share his love and what he has done for us!

Philippians - the Letter of Joy

 Hi Faithers!  I had such a great relaxing weekend at a crop this past weekend....then came home and had a wonderful sermon Sunday evening.  Dave Mullins taught on the book of Philippians and living a joy filled life.  That's what I want!!  Lord, help me to be joyful in all circumstances just like Paul was when he wrote this letter from prison. 
This was a pretty straight forward entry....Micron Pen for the words and lines, then watercolor pencils and very little water to blend....no prepping the page if you use very little water!

Apostle of Love

 Hi Faithers!  Sorry I've been MIA....I've been busy with classes.  I've been reading the book 12 Ordinary Men and I am also writing the book of John.  So when I started writing John, I was reading about the apostle John and thought I would combine both efforts on this page.  So the top notes are from the book reading.  Then I was using my Faith Art stamps just in what was speaking to me.  I used the Mermaid Lagoon Paint dauber, and didn't have to prep my page.  The heart background is a Tim Holtz stencil with Pan Pastels.

I met with our small group today and we did a cute page with a Phyllis Harris Unity stamp....I'll share that tomorrow.

Insignificant Gifts

Hi Faithers,   Reading this book, Twelve Ordinary Men" by John MacArthur and really enjoying getting to know the 12 apostles better. He has good insight into the kind of personality each had from reading the scriptures. Like Andrew never preached to the crowds but that he brought people to Christ personally one by one. And he saw the insignificant meal that the boy had to offer, but he brought him to Jesus anyway, believing Jesus would use it somehow.  I was inspired by someones post of this verse, but can't seem to find it now....but thanks for the inspiration of the 5 loaves and 2 fish!

 

It doesn't matter what we have....it matters if we have it in the right hands.....the hands of Jesus.  He can make everything matter and count not matter the size!

Give Until You Laugh

Hi Faithers,
We had such a great time this morning at our Bible Journaling small group, that I lead from my church!! We take the Sunday sermon and illustrate it.  The scripture was 2 Corinthians 10:13 and 9:10.  We will shine our light bright for all our sphere of influence...and give until we laugh!... Because we cannot out give God and when we freely give of ourselves and resources he will always amaze us at his abundant blessing he will rain down on us!!! To God be the Glory!!!

I prepped my page with clear gesso, then I started with the Faith Art stamp of the candle in the middle,  using a template for the circle and drew stick people standing "in my sphere of influence" and wrote my notes in the circle.  I used Micron Pens for the drawing and lettering and my Prismacolor Watercolor pencils for the color.

Every Breath

Happy Weekend Faithers!  Today's page is in Job...every breath is a gift from God.  He gives us life through breath.  These are stamps from Unity Stamp Co, Phyllis Harris is the artist.  I did prep the page with clear gesso, I take an old credit card and dip it in the gesso about a 1/4" and then scrape or spread it across the page, putting a thin coat down.  Then dry it with the heat gun or let it air dry, then repeat, so you have 2 thin coats.  This prevents the ink from the stamps bleeding through. I used my Inktense Blocks to watercolor the image.  I like the Inktense because they go on like watercolors, but after they dry they are permanent and do not reactive with water like regular watercolors.  The pages doesn't need to be sealed to be protected against moisture.

Walk in Love

 Happy Sunday!!  I am so excited....Wednesday is my big reveal on my new rubber stamps!!  Yes, I said my new rubber stamps!!  I have created 4 stamp sets that will work with so many different themes and pages in your Faith Art journey.  Here is a peek at 2 of them.  Lots of words and images in each versatile set that will inspire you in your art worship time.

I started by prepping the page with Clear Gesso.   I watercolored the page with Inktense Blocks.  I love the boldness of the colors.  The walk is cut out with alphabet dies.  The "in" was hand written with a Micron Pen, and the journaling was done with the Microns as well. A white Signo Pen was used around the letters and the reflection of the sun in the water.

I've been thinking about this verse with these stamps the last couple of days.  It always amazes me then how God brings stuff into your life....because that is what the lesson today at church tied to.  He referenced Psalm 37 and was talking about how to deal with jerks without becoming one....and ended in Matthew 5...Love your enemies.  So I connected it with 2 John 1:6, Walk in Love.

I hope you get to spend some time in your art worship this week....take some time and be restored and reignited for him.

A Study in Hosea

 I recently did a study in the book of Hosea and wow, what and eye opener to the depth of God's love, mercy and grace!  It is a book of God's redeeming love.  The first time I read the book of Hosea was after I had read the book Redeeming Love from Francine Rivers.  What a great book to read, if you haven't yet I highly recommend it! Then about a month ago our Preacher preached out of the first chapter and so I decided to read it again.  I also looked up a bible study from "She Read Truth".  It can be an challenging book to read because it is 13 chapters of Israel sinning against God and His righteous anger towards them.  After I had read half of it I came across Journibles.  The idea of literally writing your own bible....I thought that was a wonderful idea and decided to start mine out with Hosea.  So I started writing and the scripture came to life even more and it really slows you down and lets you think about each word in every verse.  I was amazed at the depth of God's anger toward Israel.  But I was more amazed at the little single verses sprinkled in a couple of places of God's love for his people.  So after 13 chapters I was really having a hard time reading about all the bad stuff Israel was doing, then the rainbow came!  Chapter 14, the final chapter is about God's mercy and grace towards His people and how much he loves them and wants to be with them.  Even though they deserve destruction, He will not do it.  I saw God on a new dimension after all that and saw how much he truly does love me/us and that he longs to supply us with everything we need and want....all we need to do is trust and turn to Him!

 

 If you are doubting if God loves you or wants you, Hosea will encourage you that he loves you with everything he has and deeply wants a relationship with you.  Reach out to Him and he will be there for you and supply all your needs and more!

I did multiple pages in the book of Hosea with mostly watercolors, but the last page was done with acrylic paints scrapped on the page.

Rooted in Jesus

I have started a small groups at our church with Bible Journaling and have enjoyed illustrating the sermons.  I have found that the Sunday sermons are more visual for me since I have been doing my Faith Art.  When it is visual it helps me remember the verse and brings it to life for me.  This weeks verse was Colossians 2:6
⁶ So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, ⁷ rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
We were reminded that being rooted and growing is movement and not standing still or stagnant.  When we put our roots into the word it nourishes us and we grow.  My interpretation is when we, like a flower rooted in Christ, grow up we keep our heads high looking up and sharing our beauty we receive from him. 

This page was prepped with Clear Gesso, stamps from Unity and colored with Watercolors.  Lettering was done with Micron Pens.

A Godly Wife

Today's post is a very special one in my Bible.  Last week my husbands Aunt passed away and went to be with the Lord.  She lived a full and wonderful 93 years, and 73 where spent married to a faithful, loving man.  I wanted to dedicate a page to her and she had Ephesians 6 underlined in her bible and she lived this example of a Godly woman.  After 73 years they still loved each other and served each other completely.  They have been such an example and inspiration to me in my marriage.

Aunt Eula loved hummingbirds and had several feeders on her carport, so it only seemed fitting to use that as my image.  The page was first prepped with Clear Gesso (it primes the page so you don't have bleed through), then stamped with Archival Ink and watercolored.  The heart stamp and the swirls are a surprise you will see soon (they are stamps also!)  I journaled a bit and added some blue watercoloring to the page for some color.
She will be missed but always remembered.

Bible Journaling - Testing

If you already have a variety of different products in your collection and want to know how they react on your pages make a test page.  In the front and back of your Bible you have some pages that can be used to see how they react on that thin Bible page.  Some products bleed through and some don't.  As you can see I went through my stash of products and did a variety of different methods to see what would bleed through on an untreated page.

Stamp with Memento  -  bleeds thru 
Stamp with Archival   -   bleeds thru 
Distress Ink -   went on easy-does bleed thru 
Gelatos   - dry—uneven, wet smooth, no bleed thru

Dylusions Spray -  nice color—bleed thru

Pan Pastels   -  good color little smearing

Prismacolor Pencils   -smooth & vibrant

Watercolors (Inktense)-    vibrant—little bleed thru

Acrylic Paints-  put on thin with credit card is transparent—put on thick for opaque with paint brush

Distress Stain  - bright color—bleed thru

Pens Micron Pens, Pitt Pens & Fude Ball, no bleed thru

These are the products that I used and the outcome on the back of the page.  It's good just to try different things and see what you like.  What your style is.
